Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration Barack Obama Presidential Library. The Supervisory Digital Imaging Specialist serves as a supervisor for the digitization team. The Incumbent provides services to all offices of the Library and external customers as well; including the production of preservation and/or access copies of textual materials, graphic materials, bound records and occasionally photographs and/or 3-d objects.

Duties

Help

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

As a Supervisory Digital Imaging Specialist, you will:

  • Provide leadership and support for a staff with various areas and levels of expertise and responsibility to provide efficient and effective imaging services to meet the goals of NARA.
  • Supervise staff with digital imaging, archive, photography, and metadata/quality assurance expertise from technician through journeyman levels.
  • Provide technical support for digital imaging projects including hardware, software, and equipment selections, work processes and work process development or refinement, image capture, formatting, metadata extractions, forms identification, output formats and quality control.
  • Monitor and evaluate image/metadata/quality control/quality assurance on products produced and services performed by the Library Digitization Team.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • The work is mostly sedentary with some physical exertion, including time working at a computer, operation of all types of lab equipment, assembly/disassembly/repair of lab equipment. Assignments regularly include pulling archival boxes by climbing ladders. Also bending and stooping to observe and study work operations in a digitization setting.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-12 is defined as one year of experience at the GS-11 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience must include:

  • Providing leadership to teams/units to ensure effective and efficient work methods; AND
  • Converting analog textual records, photographs, maps, and/or microforms into digital formats; AND
  • Applying regulations, policies or procedures to accomplish work assignments.
Specialized experience for the GS-11 level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-09 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as experience:
  • Developing scanning workflows for either access or preservation-oriented digitization projects; AND
  • Using color management software to produce custom profiles to calibrate scanners, digital cameras and printers; AND
  • Managing and troubleshooting digital lab equipment (e.g. automated document scanners, digital copy camera systems, and film scanners etc.)
OR

EDUCATION: You may substitute a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related.

OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent.

NOTE: Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
