Duties

Help
  • Collaborates with Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR) consultants and advises CMRA, Patient Administration Department on problems, procedures, and methods of collecting and retrieving data.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on the American College of Surgeon's (ACoS) cancer program standards.
  • Ensure that cancer data submitted to the National Cancer Databases (NCDB) during the annual Call for Data are submitted within the specified time frame
  • Ensure that applicable cancer data is submitted to the Rapid Quality Reporting System (RQRS) of the NCDB for all valid performance measures and adheres to RQRS quality standards.
  • Manage and direct operations of the Tumor Registry and coordinates functions of the registry.
  • Manage program design, input and retrieval of the computerized cancer database with the Information Management Department (IMD) and other personnel as necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between NMCSD Tumor Registrars and NTRC. Ensures cancer data is recorded and submitted to Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR).
  • Oversee the compilation and maintenance of a comprehensive database utilizing the Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR) of all patients diagnosed and/or treated for cancer at Naval Medical Center, San Diego
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of appropriate staging and coding and the inclusion of all pertinent patient data.

  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • National Cancer Registry Association (NCRA) Preferred to be obtained and maintained withing 24 months of employment

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and /or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes confirm cancer data submitted is complaint with cancer program standards; perform quality control planning of cancer registry data; provide patient follow-up on survival analyses and statistical reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Education: Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
