Duties

Help
  • Serve as a professional counselor in support of patients with a behavioral health diagnosis.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Conduct ongoing review of patient progress, evaluating and modifying treatment plans to meet changing needs.
  • Use a broad range of professional knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relevant to behavioral health programs in order to conduct comprehensive behavioral health treatment of patients.
  • Apply complex behavioral health principles to conduct comprehensive behavioral health evaluations.
  • Hold primary case management responsibility for implementing complex treatment plans, arranging for required services with other providers and/or outside resources as needed.
  • Hold primary case management responsibility for patients, using professional knowledge of behavioral health programs and treatment concepts, principles, procedures, and practices and apply knowledge to case assignments.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Incumbent may be required to perform call duties; work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis.
  • Position requires the ability to lift 20 lbs.
  • This position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. the incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • The work will require the incumbent to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Counseling Psychologist:

Degree: Two full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing comprehensive evaluations to patients; and developing or implementing treatment plans; and providing individual or group professional counseling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

AND

Licensure:
A current, active, valid, unrestricted master's level counseling/psychologist license from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required. (You MUST submit a copy of your license or certification with your application package or you will be rated ineligible.)

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.





Education
