Summary

This position is located in the Regional Facilities/Construction Department of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The primary purpose of this position, as the worksite supervisor, is to ensure through lower graded employees (Carpenters and Plumbers) performing a variety of work assignments relative to the maintenance, repair and acquisition of MWR facilities and equipment are performed in accordance with applicable rules, codes and regulations.

Duties

Help

  • Plans, schedules and coordinates the activities of subordinate Craft and Trade workers engaged in a variety of work assignments to include but not limited to installing; modifying; repairing; troubleshooting; removing; replacing all new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment; and installing, modifying and repairing new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, toilets, sinks, water closets, showers, etc; and performing various carpentry tasks involved in the alteration, construction and repair or maintenance of MWR buildings or equipment.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all new & existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment within MWR facilities.
  • Responsible for installing, modifying, repairing, tracing and locating defects, loading and testing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment. Responsible for layout and installation of new electrical lines. Performs electric survey to determine even distribution.
  • Rearranges and hooks up items such as outlets, switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures, poorly operating thermostats, regulators, circuit breakers, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes and other electrical devices.
  • Locates and repairs broken, worn, damaged or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls and equipment through visual check or use of appropriate test equipment.
  • Removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders and/or insulates items being repaired, using a variety of hand tools. Measures, cuts and bends wires and conducts to specified lengths and angles.
  • Determines, arranges, places and routes distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections and controls.
  • Installs wiring, conduit, fixtures and other electrical devices in the size, type and arrangement needed for proper and safe operation of electrical systems, circuits and equipment.
  • Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems, water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems and showers. Removes, cleans, replaces and seals defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe and leaky drains.
  • Locates and taps main lines, sets up systems routes, places and cuts route opening, places hangers for proper level and slope and determines and installs valves, traps and unions needed for proper operation of system. Measures, cuts, bends and threads pipe and tile, caulks and seals elbow, union joints and faucets; cleans and reinstalls joints and fixtures.
  • Completes the routing and placement of systems leading to the equipment and seating, hooking up and testing the equipment. Hooks up water heaters, disposal units, faucets and similar type equipment to installed systems. Uses material specified in work orders or obtains replacement parts. Measures, cuts and bends pipe according to measurements specified in work orders or sketches or by comparison with samples. Uses such tools and equipment as tapes, rulers, hacksaws, hand and power pipe threaders and cutters, packing and caulking irons, pipe wrenches, plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps and lead pots.
  • Performs various carpentry tasks involved in the alteration, repair or maintenance of MWR buildings or equipment. Repairs doors, windows, office furniture; constructs display booths, sets up sunshades; replaces screens and wire window guards; builds and repairs cabinets, walls using sheet rock, partitions and extensions; replaces worn out ceiling tiles. Measures and cuts materials to lengths and dimensions.
  • Establishes work schedules. Determines work priorities, checks work in progress and finished for compliance with sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directives. Keeps supervisor informed on status and progress of work; causes of delays; overall work operations and problems which require corrective actions.
  • Conducts training programs for assigned personnel in proper performance of their duties, use of efficient work methods and safe practices. Ensures attendance of all staff to required training classes and physicals.
  • Interviews and makes recommendations to supervisor on matters of hiring, promotions, transfers and terminations. Approves and/or makes recommendations for granting of leave.
  • Submits appropriate paperwork necessary for the purchase of parts and accessories.
  • Conducts periodic inventory of maintenance stock and equipment.
  • May be required to perform other maintenance type work as required.
  • Exercise tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting patrons. This will be expressed by responding and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner.

Qualifications

Knowledge of the makeup, operation and installation of a variety of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and controls, to include electrical code compliance.

Ability to plan, layout and complete the installation, modifications and repair of various systems, circuits, equipment and controls.

Four years of experience as an electrician.

One year of supervisory or leader experience.

Knowledge of construction and building maintenance.

Knowledge of various gauges, sizes, and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to deal effectively with others.

Some knowledge of plumbing and carpentry required.
