Help

As a IT Specialist (INFOSEC) you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Serve as a member of the Cybersecurity, Compliance, and Risk Management team supporting the development, implementation, and operation of the Cyber Security Program and Agency systems, networks, and/or enclaves:
  • Supports compliance of agency DoD 8570.01-M and DoD 8140 programs.
  • Analyze Cyber Defense Operations/Computer Network Defense to ensure agency compliance with DoD requirements.
  • Follow information security policies, methods, standards, Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA/National Institutes of Standard and Technology (NIST) standards and practices to organizational information systems, IT reference materials and interpret regulations.
  • Assist with systems risk analysis, A&A, cybersecurity, recertification reviews to ensure compliance with published office, agency, and department IT security standards.
  • Manage small-to-large size information security (INFOSEC) projects that address the needs of DSS customers including requirements gathering, planning, budgeting, scheduling, developing, testing, implementing, and debriefing.

  • The incumbent must maintain the currency of the appropriate certification throughout the tenure of the appointment.
  • The incumbent must sign a Statement of Understanding regarding the certification requirement and maintaining the appropriate certification is a condition of employment.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade (GS/GG-13) in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility.
Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Mastery of a wide range of DoD cybersecurity policies, technologies, processes, methods, and techniques and the use of a high degree of originality and sound judgment in formulating, evaluating and monitoring these areas in order to function as an policy authority throughout the Agency.
  • Expert knowledge of commercially available products and subsystems that provide cybersecurity features and other safeguards.
  • Using judgment and ingenuity to guide personnel in the analysis of unprecedented cyber related problems, and developing new and improved techniques and methods as necessary.

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:
1. Cybersecurity: Protect and defend information and information systems in order to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability. (AKA Information Assurance)

2. Information Technology Policy and Planning: Develop and promulgate Information Technology strategy, policy, guidance and plans. Monitor to ensure consistency and compliance.

3. Risk Management Framework: Unified Information security framework for the entire federal government.

4. Customer Service: Apply customer support principles.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
