Duties

Help

Within overall plans developed at higher levels, and by the supervisor, selects and emphasizes assigned youth sports program activities to be offered for ages 5-18. Both the required basic program categories, and those additional ones possible through available resources and desirable in terms of participant interests and needs, i.e. sports events etc. Implements program plans developed by supervisor and acts as the point of contact (POC) for all JB MDL volunteer youth coaches. Coordinates and plans the details of both special and recurring sports activities ensuring maximum use of facilities, services, and other resources. Schedules and publicizes various youth sports activities in the interest of the most effective attraction and motivation of participants. Selects and emphasizes recreational sports activities to be offered with an average of 15 teams per program. Assists in conducting clinics and seminars to train coaches, officials, and/or participants. Schedules and publicizes tournaments and other sports events. Solicits volunteer and paid services for activities and evaluates the effectiveness of youth sports activities and program objectives. Plan and maintain budget for equipment through the fiscal year as it relates to sports equipment, field equipment, and officials' and scorekeepers' payroll. Recruit, train and schedule volunteer coaches, officials, and scorekeepers for each assigned sport when needed to operate and schedule changes. Train and supervise staff on proper use of equipment to maintain fields and gymnasiums and arbitrate on and off the field objections and protests. Responsible for year-round field and building maintenance at various sports facilities and arrange for necessary supplies, transportation, space, and services to accomplish scheduled sports activities. Assists the open rec program in shill coverage when needed. programs and promotions that include set up, implementation and breakdown including but not limited to Olympic Day, Day for Kids, America Armed Forces Kids Runs, and other activities that promote healthy living/fitness and sports recreation. May supervise, lead. oversee, and/or coordinate the daily activities of other employees engaged in the performance of their duties and other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.


Qualifying Experience: Demonstrated experience in planning, supervising, administering, or carrying out a sports program that included a variety of individual and team sports and guiding participants in developing the skills needed for participation in youth sports activities and teaching the techniques of various sports. This experience may have been gained managing or administering a youth sports program in a community, industrial activity, or secondary school or college: planning. teaching or evaluating a physical education curriculum for secondary or higher academic levels: or managing, umpiring, or officiating at amateur or professional athletic events, recreational, or games. Subject to work an uncommon tour of duty to meet program requirements including nights, weekends, and holidays. Required experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level. An undergraduate degree in physical education may be fully qualifying for this position.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution in order to qualify.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
