Duties

Help
  • Inspects and troubleshoots electrical pop-up target mechanisms on ranges.
  • Ensures that controls and target mechanisms are operational prior to and after use.
  • Services and issues informational materials and maintains logs in support of training.
  • Inspects and oversees usage of training areas by units training on the installation.
  • Coordinates and control installation training areas and facilities.
  • Inspects and service ranges, training areas, facilities and firing positions before live fire exercises.

  • A current State drivers license is required. Must be able to operate both a four-wheel drive vehicle with standard transmission and an off-road all-terrain vehicle. Work requires driving on hazardous roads and terrain.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires rotation between training areas shift work, and weekend/holiday work and overtime may be required.
  • Incumbent must be in good physical condition. Work requires frequent exposure to foul weather conditions.
  • Position requires Range Safety Training and Certification, which may be obtain within one year of employment. Inability to obtain and maintain this certification may result in termination.
  • This position is a Designated Mission Essential Position: Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) TARGET SYSTEM WORKER (MVO) ~ without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common tasks including troubleshooting, inspecting, and/or repairing target mechanism systems. Troubleshoot and/or repair electrical pop-up target mechanisms. Assist range personnel with inspecting, maintaining or serving computer systems, equipment or applications used in range operations. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work requires inspection of field sites, necessitating walking, standing and climbing. Incumbent must be able to pick up and carry 45 pounds and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in all kinds of weather in an outdoor environment; however, some work is performed in an office environment. Some work is performed at range sites where the exposures to hazardous materials or instruments exist.
