About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama, surrounded by Enterprise, Ozark and Daleville.

Duties

Help
  • Instruct and evaluate rated and non-rated aviators in pilot and instructor pilot proficiency in the UH-60 Helicopter.
  • Instruct and evaluate rated and non-rated aviators in the UH-60 Helicopter utilizing systems, techniques, and maneuvers.
  • Operate the multi-engine, tandem seated UH-60 Helicopter while instructing or evaluating.
  • Conduct classroom instruction on all aspects of the UH-60 to include training maneuvers, aircraft systems, and other subjects as assigned.
  • Monitor standardization requirements; recommend changes in lesson plans, program of instructions, training methods and techniques.

This is a TERM NTE 2 YEARS position. Position may be filled as a TERM Appointment NTE 2 YEARS. TERM appointments may be extended beyond of six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, TERM appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.

Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a TERM appointment will be appointed/converted into a TERM appointment with no statuary return rights back to a permanent position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Implementing methods of instruction for student pilot in the UH-60 Helicopter; (2) Evaluating student pilots in all levels of development in areas such as flight maneuvers, aircraft systems and limitations, instruments flight procedures, and terrain flight; (3) Operating the UH-60 Helicopter while instructing and evaluating the student pilots in areas such as Night Vision Systems, tactical digital communications, and navigation (4) Conducting classroom instruction on the systems and/or procedures of the UH-60 Helicopter; (5) Monitoring standardization requirements within the organization; and (6) Recommending changes in lesson plans, program of instruction, training methods and techniques within the organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Certifications: This position requires you possess the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Pilot Certificates, FAA Flight Instructor Certificate and/or appropriate military rating. FAA Medical Certification:
Position requires the incumbent to possess a current first or second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations at the time of appointment. (Must upload a copy of your FAA Class first or second-class medical certificate in order to be considered for this position.)

Minimum Flight Hours Requirement:
Total Flight Hours- 1500
Pilot in Command - 250
Night Flying - 75
Flying Time in the Last 12 Months - 100 (May be waivered)
Instructor Hours - 500
Heavy Helicopter Hours - 500 (Up to 250 hours flying time acquired in heavy multi-engine airplanes may be substituted)
Instrument Hours - 75
Actual Weather- 10 (This requirement applies to AH-64E candidates ONLY. Candidate without the required 10 weather hours will be evaluated/hired as AH-64D instructors per OPM requirements)
