As a VISUAL INFORMATION SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties

  • Conceives, plans, designs, and creates visual information products that are thematically appropriate, aesthetically arranged, and of high production value.
  • Supports directorate internal and external web pages with graphic content.
  • Produces professional print layout and coordinates for the hardcopy printing of agency reports and marketing materials.
  • Integrates graphics that provide vivid data visualization into finished intelligence documents.
  • Coordinates within agency on updating and maintaining agency branding and marking standards.

Qualifications

This position has a Basic Requirement for the 1084:

Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.

Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade (GS/GG-12) in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility. Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience.

Specialized experience for this position includes:

Integrates graphic elements into finished products and presentations to add value to the products. Develops original graphic content, internal communications, and outreach products. Determines proper software applications for completing the graphic content, designs, and creates accurate data depiction for inclusion in products. Conceptualizes, plans, designs, creates, and produces layout of professional quality print publications. Coordinates for the hardcopy printing of annual publications, outreach brochures, and workplace posters. Creates and produces original artwork, graphics, videography, animation, and other visuals for use in products, policy handbooks, presentations, promotional materials, briefings, conferences, web sites, and other products; adapts and converts existing source materials to create screen content, layouts, animations, and interactivity

Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:
  1. Print and Web Design Development: Direct the development and production of web and print projects.
  2. Visual Information Development: Knowledge of Visual Information products and processes, such as computer generated visuals and output media. Develops and produces Visual Information projects.
  3. Website Development: Knowledge of web technology used to create new websites; including experience using systems such as HTML 5, CSS and Javascript.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
