  • Plans and schedules work assignments on a mid to long-range basis (weekly, occasionally, or monthly) for accomplishment by the units supervised within schedules and priorities established by higher level management.
  • Establishes a good working climate to encourage employees to participate in achieving management goals and to promote efficient and economical work operations.
  • Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinates, makes formal appraisals of their work performance, and determines training needs for all levels of subordinate supervisors and workers.
  • Determines manpower, tooling, material requirements, and methods to be used; and plans work assignments; availability of manpower and equipment, deadlines, and other work projects for which responsible
  • Organizes, coordinates, and directs the work activities and personnel of the units supervised.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain Universal (types I, II, and III) Certification as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F and be familiar with recovery techniques and procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Backflow Certification from AWWA or the State of North Carolina.
  • Must be able to receive training and obtain and maintain NC Asbestos state accreditation certification.
  • Successful applicants must be able to obtain (32 hour course) and maintain (8 hour annual refresher) accreditation as a licensed Asbestos Abatement Worker and Supervisor.
  • Course must meet or exceed EPA’s AHERS requirements and OSHA standards for Class I and Class II Asbestos Operations.
  • Successful applicants will be required to obtain (40 hour course) and maintain (8 hour annual refresher) accreditation as defined in 10A North Carolina Administrative Code (NCAC) 41C.0601(a)(16) and (18).
  • Course must meet or exceed EPA’s AHERS requirements and OSHA standards for Class I and II Asbestos Operations. (10A NCAC 41C.0602 ACCREDATION and 40 CFR 763 Subpart E Asbestos-Containing Materials in School AHERA).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and must meet any installation and/or DOD requirements for the type vehicle being operated.
  • Must successfully pass physical examination(s) as required by Federal and Office of Safety and Occupational Health Administration guides.
  • This position is designated as essential during inclement weather.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision. -Planning, coordinating, and directing a variety of related work operations or functions through one or more layers of supervision. I am skilled in supervising the maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings and facilities, planning work schedules and sequence of operations; developing performance standards; supervising the servicing, and preventative maintenance on smaller air conditioning ,refrigeration and heating equipment, removing, replacing and making repairs to electrical fixtures and controls, and measuring, cutting, constructing, and repairing wood products. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
