Summary

The primary purpose of this position as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) is to manage the day-to-day Aerial Port Squadron activities and serve as a senior representative. Provide advice and guidance to leadership. Provide knowledge and expertise to senior leaders. Perform, develop and oversee a variety of tasks ensuring reservists are properly trained and equipped to meet functional requirements. Provide development, training, and deployment of reserve personnel.

Duties

Help

Serve as a senior transportation specialist, managing day-to-day activities.

Represent the unit at a variety of installation and functional area organizations; establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with organizations.

Manage organization readiness programs for assigned units, assists with planning for current and future taskings, and provides oversight of budget/financial issues.

Exercise supervisory and/or personnel management responsibilities and advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.

Identify deficiencies and develop/implement plans for increasing mission readiness.

  • Incumbent may be required to fly on aircraft to perform Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station
  • Required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal and Regulatory Guide
  • The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. Incumbent may be required to work an uncommon tour of duty
  • This is a Supervisory Position, incumbent must complete 1 year Supervisory Probationary Period

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for IOR Series 2101 + General Schedule Administrative and Management Positions.

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE EDUCATION: Major study -- accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

EXPERIENCE:
Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of the transportation function(s) of the position to be filled.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in federal service (or equivalent in other pay systems) in which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is experience that demonstrates a knowledge of the transportation function(s) which may include aerial port operations, transportation principles, concepts, practices, and techniques applied to various issues and assignments.

EDUCATION:
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. With a major study in or related fields such as accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics or other fields related to the position. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
: Have less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement. However, have at least one year of progressively higher-level graduate education, but have no obtained a master's or equivalent graduate degree. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.Knowledge of a wide range of Air Transportation concepts, principles, practices to include Aerial Port policies and operations, supervisory roles, squadron training programs, deployment processes, budgets and resource management.

2. Knowledge of Air Transportation Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) training and mobility readiness requirements.

3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices and procedures.

4. Skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to solve issues and/or formulate solutions to complex Air Transportation problems.

5. Ability to plan, organize and direct staff functions, mentor, motivate, evaluate subordinates, and direct organizational personnel to meet mission requirements and unit objectives within available resource constraints.

6. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, clearly concisely and with technical accuracy.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
