About the Position: As a Natural Resource Specialist (Park Ranger), you will participate in the conservation, preservation, restoration, and use of project natural and cultural resources at The Dalles Project, a large multi-function hydropower project.
Enforce Title 36 CFR by educating the visiting public on project purposes, conditions, policies, and regulations.
Patrol project lands and waters to prevent unauthorized use, trespass, destruction of project land, water, facilities, and other environmental resources.
Investigate and report violations.
Conduct public relations services for the general public and for special groups.
Provide project information to local, state and federal agencies and the visiting public through brochures, bulletin boards, news releases, telephone calls, and other written and verbal communications.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires working nights, weekends, and holidays.
This position requires lifting up to 45 lbs.
This position requires a pre-employment physical.
This position requires the employee to wear a uniform and safety gear.
This position requires a driver’s license.
This position requires CPR Certification within 6 months.
You must be able to obtain and/or maintain a US Army Corps of Engineers Boating License.

Individual Occupational Requirement:
A Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

A Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
** In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the minimum qualification requirements listed below:
Minimum Qualification at the GS-07: Qualified applicants will describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in federal service with monitoring visitor activity, and coordinating recreational services with community organizations, and enforcing park rules and regulations.

Have completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Have completed an undergraduate degree with major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) AND obtained Superior Academic Achievement based upon: (1) Class Standing - You must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; OR (2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - You must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.; OR (3) Honor Society Membership - You may be considered eligible based on membership in one of the approved national scholastic honor societies listed by the Association of College Honor Societies (https://www.achsnatl.org/). Have a combination of education and experience: To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Minimum Qualification at the GS-09: Qualified applicants must describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in federal service with natural resources management, visitor assistance, and enforcing park rules and regulations.

Have completed a masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education with major study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Have a combination of education and experience: To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12.
