• Performs inspection and the full range of work involved in the repair, service, maintenance and overhaul of a variety of types of towed, self-propelled and turret artillery and their mounts, turrets and carriages.
• Repairs mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems and assemblies elevating, traversing, recoil, loading, ramming, and firing systems, breech tube, equilibrators, trails, bogies, cupolas, outriggers, shields, and their components.
• Trains less experienced workers in repair and maintenance techniques.
• Makes diagnosis and locates mechanical deficiencies in automatic pistols, revolvers, shotguns, carbines, automatic rifles, submachine and machine guns, mortars, recoilless rifles, rocket launchers, other small arms and accessories.
• May be required to perform maintenance and repair work on small arms at the firing range in connection with training and qualifying firing, making field repairs as necessary, clearing stoppages, unloading jammed weapons.

Conditions of employment

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
• Temporary Duty Travel required 25% of the time
• Must serve a 1-year probationary period.
• Requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter to perform the duties of the position.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs in the regular performance of duties.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid state and military driver's license to operate GSA (General Services Administration) and military combat vehicles 2600 lbs.
• The incumbent is required to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) ARTILLERY REPAIRER ~ without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

• Ability to perform the most difficult and complex Artillery Repairer and small arms duties. I am skilled in (1) Performing artillery and small arms repairs to disassemble, reassemble, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with small arms and artillery weapons; (2) Setting up and operating standard machines and various hand tools to modify various weapon parts. I am considered am expert and work with a high degree of independence.
• Ability to perform the full range of Artillery Repairer and small arms duties. I am skilled in (1) disassembling, reassembling, and trouble shooting issues with small arms and artillery weapons; (2) Operating standard machines and various hand tools to modify various weapons parts. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
• Ability to perform common Artillery Repairer and small arms duties. I can assist with disassembling, reassembling, and troubleshooting issues with small arms and artillery weapons. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes task in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

• Physical Effort: Work assignments involve standing, climbing, bending and occasionally, cramped and awkward positions. Continually handles objects weighing from 10 to 40 pounds. The assistance of other workers is available for heavier lifts.
• Working Conditions: Works inside on concrete floors and on the outside at the firing range. Work is dirty and greasy. Injuries may occur due to falls when climbing and walking on slippery and inclined surfaces of large artillery weapons. Is subject to frequent cuts and abrasions when using hand tools in confined spaces and electrical shock (220 Volts). Exposed to excessive noise from test firing weapons; possible injury due to handling tools and weapons; dust, and fumes; and more serious injury from ricochet bullets and acids and when unloading jammed or misfired weapons.
