About the Position: This position is located at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Liberty, North Carolina. Primary office location is Joel Pediatric Clinic,secondary location at AMC/WOMACK for NICU coverage. Serves as the pediatric nutrition expert on interdisciplinary feeding team and neonatal developmental clinics,advisor to hospital staff physicians, pharmacists,nurses and other health care providers in the nutrition management of the pediatric population.

Duties

Help
  • Provide comprehensive nutrition services to neonate, infants, children, adolescents, family members and adults upon request in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Obtains and documents a problem-oriented health and nutrition history.
  • Design and recommend specific feeding regimens including tube feedings, specialized diets and parenteral nutrition using the most up-to-date published standards of practice and information derived from the literature.
  • Counsel families and patients on dietary plans.
  • Coordinate the education of staff, students, patients and their significant others on medical nutrition therapy plans.
  • Participate as a member in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to help identify areas of need within specific pediatric disciplines.
  • Participates in community education programs, special health promotion events, primary and secondary school system orientations, well baby programs

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position has specific initial child background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • General lifting, moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 lbs required.
  • This position requires a professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists.

OR

Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes obtaining pediatric patient history; performing pediatric physical exams; and providing nutrition education to patient, caregivers and/or healthcare staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
