Duties

Help
  • Provides advice and guidance on a wide range and variety of IT issues.
  • Conducts analyses and recommends resolutions of conventional but complex issues affecting a particular IT specialty area.
  • Provides functional expertise, analysis, and advice to the internal customers and/or contractors for interface decisions, integrated processes and operational considerations.
  • Analyzes alternatives and recommends solutions relating to the complete life cycle for information systems and information systems components.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the eligibility and qualifications requirements as defined below by the closing date of the announcement. For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit the Office of Personnel Management's General Schedule Qualification Standards.

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-09: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: fulfilling a variety of developmental basic/conventional IT tasks in Windows operating systems, performing basic troubleshooting of networks, web pages, work stations, or personal computers; and/or analyzing basic issues affecting specialty IT areas, providing advice and guidance on a variety of IT issues, conducting analysis and recommending resolutions of convention but complex issues affecting a particular IT specialty area; and/or providing excellent customer service assisting customers in installing applications, troubleshooting post-installation problems, and coordinating the technical support of deployed applications.
OR
Masters or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or another major that provided at least 24 semester hours in these fields and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience, you must also possess and demonstrate the Information Technology (IT) related experience identified in the following 4 competencies listed below:

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

You will be evaluated in accordance with the category rating procedure as defined in the USDA Demonstration Project Plan. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. You will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Assessment Questionnaire. Individuals with veterans' preference are listed ahead of applicants who do not have veterans' preference within each category.
