Summary

The incumbent performs upkeep and repair of all ward utilities on a regular basis. Such repairs include repairing desks, storage lockers, filing cabinets, and beds. They will adjust televisions, nurse call equipment, fire alarm equipment, water sprinklers, plumbing fixtures, electrical lighting fixtures, and dietetic equipment. Must have a journey level proficiency in at least two of the following trades: Locksmith, Electrician, Plumbing, Carpentry.

Duties

Help

  • Repair and install locking hardware. Must be able to set up, duplicate and maintain lock system comprising of removable and non-removable cores.
  • Set up, duplicate and maintain lock system comprising of removable and non-removable cores.
  • Interpret and create new codes and expansion codes to prevent cross-keying of any locks.
  • Maintain current locking system and recommend upgrades as necessary. Determine the most suitable locks for solving security issues.
  • Routine electrical maintenance, replacement of switches, receptacles, and fixtures. A variety of electrical repairs such as replacing fuses, fluorescent ballasts and tubes, light bulbs and other simple elements of electrical repair.
  • General plumbing maintenance skills required to maintain, repair and make alterations to water, air, and sanitary plumbing pipes and fixtures. Tests joints and pipe systems for leaks and repairs, replaces valves, repairs leaks, and clears drain stoppage.
  • Perform routine inspection and repairs items such as cabinets, doors, handrails, etc. Repairs/replaces door closures, door stops, clothes lockers and other related carpentry duties.

Physical Requirements: The incumbent must perform tasks in difficult places that require ample walking, kneeling, stooping, lifting, crawling, and ladder climbing. Incumbent handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds and sometimes over considerable distances. They are required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time and on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard-to-reach places.
