Summary

The Electrician performs journeyman responsibilities in the electrician trades. Determines the methods and techniques, devices, and materials necessary to do the completed job. Installs, modifies, repairs, troubleshoots, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment such as secondary distribution lines and circuits; distribution panels; switchgear, power, and control circuits; electrical warning/detection/fire alarms systems; high intensity lighting etc., Plans and lays out the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, controls, etc. Determines, arranges, and installs wiring; conduit, transformers, connections, fittings, etc.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Performs the full range of journey level duties associated with the installation, modification, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures and controls located in installation buildings and structures.
Plans and lays out proposed installation of circuits from written and verbal instructions.
Studies blueprints, wiring diagrams, and maintenance and repair manuals to determine the proper routing, placement, gauge, balance, load, and safe operation or circuits, systems, equipment and control.
Performs general maintenance, diagnostic tests, repair, modification, and overhaul involving a variety of commercial and industrial type electrical devices and equipment including power control panels, transformers, generators, relays, and alternators.
Refers to blueprints wiring diagrams, and manufacturers specifications, diagnoses malfunctions by visual inspection, and by using testing equipment such as micrometers, voltmeters, ammeters, and meggers.
Cleans and lubricates equipment; repairs faulty wiring, connections, regulators, faulty relays, solenoid valves, and various types of gauges and controls.
Tests, repairs, modifies, and overhauls a variety of equipment such as AC/DC monitors, alternators, transformers, generators, remote controls, relays, power control panels, and electrically powered equipment.
Identifies mechanisms, materials, and component parts from a knowledge of descriptions, color codes, symbols, schematics, and manufacturers codes number.
Maintain security of all assigned tools, equipment, and materials
Report missing items to the supervisor
Maintain a safe work area, utilizing all assigned or provided safety equipment and clothing.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5:00am-1:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD11452A Physical Requirements: Performs moderately heaving lifting (up to 100 lbs.), pulling and carrying of equipment and material. Required to walk, climb, crawl, kneel, stoop, bend, push and pull. May work from ladders and scaffolds. Must have the ability to distinguish color and shades of color. At times, works in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks.
Must pass PFT, X-Ray, completion of personal history questionnaire, physical examination conducted by physician is required prior to start date, then annually. Safety shoes, safety glasses, respirators, protective clothing and hard hats are typical safety equipment required.
Work is performed both indoors and outside and is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Incumbent is required to make repairs in noisy areas and inclement weather at times. Incumbent may be exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, burns, cuts and bruises. Incumbent will be exposed to asbestos containing areas. Incumbent must follow V ASDHS Medical Center Memorandum 00-52, Airborne Asbestos Protection.
