About the Position: Serve as Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor over the maintenance crew assigned to the Project, exercising supervisory responsibility for control over work operations involving approximately four to seven subordinate workers. Required to operate flood control structures including sluice gates, tainter gates, motors, pump stations, spillways, etc.

  • Plan distribution of work to subordinates on a day to-day or project-to-project basis within the instructions and time limits provided.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires possession of or ability to acquire a valid state driver's license and a Corps of Engineers boat operator's license.
  • Position is designated for drug testing and is subject to urinalysis testing prior to appointment and you will be subject to random urinalysis testing during employment in accordance with AR 600-85.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
  • May be required to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project.
  • A one year supervisory probationary period may be required if not already completed.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to complete the required initial training to obtain and maintain a Government Purchase Card (GPC) within 12 months of being appointed.
  • MISSION ESSENTIAL: position is required to remain in place to ensure the uninterrupted execution of mission-essential functions.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to lead or supervise. I can perform and direct the performance of maintenance and repair duties on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems, and carpentry and welding projects in accordance with established trade standards. I have experience at the journeyman level in at least one of the following trades: electrical, mechanical, plumbing and/or carpentry. I have performed administrative duties associated with leadership and facility management such as establishing shop deadlines and priorities, maintaining production reports/records and assigning and evaluating work of staff.

Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platform
  • Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.

Education

The probationary period provides the opportunity to assess the new supervisor's performance (not technical ability or program knowledge) and ascertain their success or return them to a non-supervisory position if warranted.
