Official Title: Information Technology Specialist (AI)
Duties Include:

  1. Serving as a technical thought leader to shape strategies and advising stakeholders on AI and machine learning projects and initiatives.
  2. Performing quantitative analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling to analyze data and solve problems.
  3. Exploring innovative research to gain a technical edge for projects.
  4. Performing testing, evaluation, verification, and validation on AI solutions to ensure they are robust, resilient, responsible, secure, and trustworthy, and communicating results to stakeholders.
  5. Contributing to the formulation of IT policies, procedures, and technical guidance for implementing agency AI systems impacting bargaining unit employees.
  6. Using hands-on experience in data analysis, natural language processing, computer vision, and/or machine learning to deliver products supporting agency priorities.
  7. Identifying AI solutions that leverage AI or other emerging technologies to support federal and/or agency priorities and recommending the adoption of new or improved AI approaches.
  8. Providing technical guidance on AI system development, integration issues, and utilization to agency staff.
  9. Staying informed and introducing modern and emerging AI information technologies to optimize potential capabilities and assimilating information technologies critical to planning and interoperability of agency business systems.
  10. Applying expert analytical skills to assess, evaluate, and improve AI-related project outcomes using qualitative and quantitative methods and serving as a technical advisor on streamlining AI model development and deployment.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet both the Basic Competency Requirements (A) AND Specialized Experience requirements (B) as noted below.

A. Basic Competency Requirements:
You must possess IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies as defined:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

B. Specialized Experience:
GS-14: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (5) duties listed below:
  1. Providing leadership to shape strategies and advise stakeholders on AI (Artificial Intelligence) and machine learning projects and initiatives;
  2. Performing quantitative analysis, machine learning, and/or statistical modeling to analyze data and solve complex problems;
  3. Conducting testing, evaluation, verification, and validation on AI (Artificial Intelligence) solutions to ensure they remain robust and trustworthy;
  4. Contributing to the development of IT policies, procedures, and technical guidance for the implementation of AI (Artificial Intelligence) systems within the agency;
  5. Utilizing data analysis, natural language processing, computer vision, and/or machine learning to deliver products that support agency priorities to provide recommendations to the adoption of new or enhanced AI (Artificial Intelligence) approaches for IT services.
