Duties

Help

Plans and administers a comprehensive and versatile leisure and recreation service program involving single and unaccompanied El-E6 enlisted military personnel. Program requires innovative approaches and major adaptations because of a combination of factors such as: limitations in available funds, use of various facilities, limited resources to conduct program, a diverse range of leisure interests and needs of the community served and a variety of activities which substantially exceed basic program requirements.

Develops and conducts a leisure education program that will include but not limited to the following:

Leisure Education: Developing and executing leisure educational curriculum focused on various aspects of leisure. Program will include guest speakers, audio visual material and hands on events and activities.

Leisure Skills Development: Classes and programs that aid in an individual in exploring
leisure/recreation interests.

Social Activities: A program to foster development among an individual and his/her peers

Travel: A program to provide opportunities to travel on one-day and occasional overnight trips

Sports: A well-rounded program that affords individual competition and physical activity. Program to be coordinated with Department Sports Coordinator and individual commands as necessary. Activities are those which are not necessarily conducted as part of the base intramural program.

Cultural: A program designed to help adjustment to the area. This program includes escorted tours of the base, along with base and squadron indoctrinations, highlighting facilities and programs offered.

Develops appropriated (APF) and non appropriated (NAF) fund budget, estimates with supporting justifications as required to initiate and promote an efficient single service member program. Monitors funds collected and expended.

Involves scheduling, organization, publicizing, directing or providing guidance to staff to facilitate activity programs and special events. Publicizes events and programs to ensure maximum participation. Methods include face to face, advertising, and promotions, flyers, banners, etc. Maintains contact with responsible representatives of the command, special interest groups, local community officials and civic organizations to ensure proper filtration of information to the target customer.

Develops and supervise a year-round outreach recreation program designed to promote and enhance socialization and participation of young military personnel. Includes area wide MWR programs and events and programs sponsored by commercial leisure businesses (i.e. ski resorts, sporting arenas, comedy clubs, concerts, trips and tours, introductory clinics, etc.

Coordinates activities, programming and scheduling with other recreation facilities such as: Carney Park, Movie Theater, ITT, Bowling, Fitness, Sports, Chapel, Public Affairs, Red Cross, USO, DODEA, NFEs, and other military installations and community organizations.

Supervises and is directly responsible for 3 full/part time employees. Supervisory responsibilities involve recruiting, interviewing, selecting, orientation, training and evaluating.

Conducts leisure/recreation needs assessments through surveys and focus groups to evaluate the needs of the community served and the effects of the programs offered. Develops programs and initiates program changes based on the analysis of the leisure/recreation needs assessments.

Qualifications

Knowledge and skill in application of the basic goals, principles, methods and techniques of recreation which may be gained through education and/or experience that enables the incumbent to competently and independently carry out a variety of military leisure /recreation projects and programs.

Knowledge of the range of activities and services of participant's interest and needs, which knowledge enable the employee to plan and conduct a variety of enhanced activities and services for the military community.

Ability to evaluate the participant's response to activities and programs and evaluate the extent to which recreation programs are meeting their goals, objectives, interests and needs.

Ability to communicate orally and in writing with the community, advisory groups and other community agencies.

Household goods may be shipped and a Living Quarter Allowance (LQA), is paid to cover monthly housing and utility costs.
