Summary

The Program Support Assistant (PSA) is located within the Geriatric Extended Care (GEC) Service Line at VA Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System (VA CWM HCS), which includes the Leeds campus and all other 5 Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Worcester, Springfield, Fitchburg, Greenfield, and Pittsfield. The incumbent functions as an administrative/clerical support staff in the Geriatric Extended Care (GEC) Service Line.

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provides administrative management support for the organization.
  • Supports the effectiveness of daily operations of the Geriatric Extended Care (GEC) Service Line and all programs with effective writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintains administrative systems to track implementation of all applicable policies and procedures for the Chief of GEC, GEC Managers and Supervisors.
  • Gathers and reports various data and business processes to supervisors on a regular basis.
  • Provides basic quantitative and qualitative analysis and evaluation concerning effectiveness of GEC Service Line programs in meeting established National and VISN goals, measures, and objectives.
  • Recommends changes in existing program activities using productivity, cost effectiveness and clinical outcome data.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a database for the tracking of statistical information related to important GEC metrics.
  • Conducts weekly productivity studies, monitors reports, and analyzes workload data using a wide range of methods and procedures.
  • Composes memos and letters and maintains meeting minutes.
  • Provides administrative support regarding some timekeeping, performance appraisals and employee files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify at the GS-6 level if you fulfill the following qualifications:

-Specialized Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: typing a variety of correspondence; entering data into databases; utilizing office automation software; coordinating meetings and preparing meeting minutes.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (medical records, computing devices, manuals, papers, books, small parts). The wok requires manual dexterity for computer data entry, office machine operation and filing. However, in general, the work does not require unusual physical demands.
