Duties

Help

- Satellite Operations and Ground Systems Control. Uses and applies technical engineering knowledge to provide satellite operations and ground station support in the areas of satellite command and control, network performance monitoring and configuration, telemetry monitoring and collection, alarms monitoring, first level troubleshooting, and mission planning/scheduling.

-Technical Support. Supports and works with engineer professionals to ensure all design, processes, material, or operations considerations have been addressed. Administers comprehensive satellite operations and ground station control procedures and systems.

-Contract Oversight. Provide government oversight to work performed by contractor personnel during assigned shift.

Qualifications

This position is a developmental position and will be filled at the GG-07 level with promotion potential to the GG-11. The individual selected for this position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements.

This is a GG-07 target 11 position in the Cyber Excepted Service (CES). The GG-07 duties for the "Technician/Administrative Support" work category are at the "Entry/Developmental" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-07 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.

To qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements describes in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Practical engineering knowledge of a wide range of technical concepts, methods, principles, and practices in satellite command and control systems, computer operations, and telemetry analysis. Knowledge of a wide range of telecommunications theories, concepts, principles, practices, procedures, policies, standards and operational requirements; knowledge of performance characteristics of telecommunications equipment, systems, services, and transmission media to evaluate devices, proposals, and approaches. Knowledge of operational and performance characteristics of telecommunications to define, coordinate, plan, and satisfy user requirements for telecommunications equipment, systems, or services, and to review, develop, or interpret communications policies and procedures. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency.

EDUCATION:
One full year of graduate education in an appropriate field of engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.

AND

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. General and practical knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, principles, practices, and techniques; practical knowledge of a wide range of satellite command and control systems, computer operations, and telemetry analysis.
  1. Knowledge of a wide range of telecommunications theories, concepts, principles, practices, procedures, policies, standards and operational requirements; knowledge of performance characteristics of telecommunications equipment, systems, services, and transmission media to evaluate devices, proposals, and approaches.
  2. Knowledge of basic electronics theory and operating principles, the application of existing and planned technology to communications requirements, and equipment interoperability and compatibility.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to identify, direct, or coordinate actions required in providing needed service.
  1. Ability to analyze/apply specialized communication methods and analytical techniques involving telecommunication systems (e.g., systems compatibility, circuits, switches, distribution, satellite linkages, and networking).

Conditions of Employment Continued:

-Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
