Summary

The Program Support Assistant serves as an ambassador for the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) for The Veteran Experience Office and the Ambassador Service, providing support as a Veteran Experience Liaison. The employee will work the main lobby and other areas of the Medical Center ensuring excellent customer service to the Veteran patients. The position is located in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Duties include but may not be limited to:

  • Provides assistance with visitor referral services.
  • Refers Veterans to the appropriate staff member and/or department based on the nature of the question and/or situation.
  • Provides directions and often takes the Veterans and visitors to the location when they are having difficulties.
  • Provides patient transport services which requires pushing wheelchairs, transport chairs, gurneys, stretchers, and hospital beds; assists with morgue runs and transporting other medical equipment.
  • Disinfects wheelchairs and transport chairs on the required disinfection cycle.
  • Serves as the ambassador liaison between the Veteran Experience Office and the clinic.
  • Answers questions regarding the location of outpatient clinics, inpatient pharmacy, radiology, and lab services.
  • Communicates effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds as well as mental and/or health problems.
  • Assists patients from their vehicles to admissions and to their destinations, internally from ward to ward or clinic, and finally to discharge and their vehicle.
  • Operates KIOSKs, computer and photocopy machines.
  • Assists Veterans with in-person authentication of the MyHealtheVet, VA.gov, and the ID.me Program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicant(s) must meet one the following qualifications:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in Federal service that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes providing customer service; receiving, greeting, and directing visitors; and responding to general inquiries via the telephone and in person. (Resume(s) must clearly support the duties and experience required for this position. We will not make assumptions regarding experience.)

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): 4 years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Combination of specialized experience and successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total experience requirement. Only education in excess of 2 years is creditable.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The employee is required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and sitting at a computer for long periods of time. The work is primarily physical and requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, kneeling, and pushing wheelchairs, transport chairs, gurneys, stretchers, medical beds, and other medical equipment. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work requires heavy lifting of equipment or patients. The employee must be able to operate a vehicle in a sitting position for prolonged periods of time in extreme weather conditions.
