Summary

These positions are located at the VA North Texas Healthcare System in Bonham, TX. The Rehabilitation Technician serves as an active member of the Bonham Domiciliary Interdisciplinary Team providing direct care to veterans through continuous observation, reporting, documentation, educational group efforts, and follow-up with regard to the security, health, safety, and support of treatment efforts of clinical staff in the veteran's daily activities.

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs admit/intake/orientation functions for newly arrived veterans to the Domiciliary;
  • Responds to emergency contingencies in first responder role throughout Domiciliary;
  • Conducts continual and routine safety/security/cleanliness inspections of individual veteran rooms;
  • Gathers and provides information to the interdisciplinary team pertinent to assessment and treatment planning;
  • Directs and supports the veteran in an effort to achieve developed and stated treatment goals'
  • Facilitates daily/weekly individual and/or group sessions;
  • Uses guided rehabilitation strategies;
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Work Schedule: Tour to be determined upon selection; Facility requires 24 hours 7 days per weekcoverage. Will be required to work weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

In addition to the above, in order to qualify for this position, all applicants must meet one of the following:

Specialized Experience: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience in the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. This experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. Applicants should possess knowledge of the signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse and referring clients to community resources. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~

Education: Successfully completed one half year of graduate education (9 semester hours or equivalent) with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position. Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses directly related to the work of the position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: The work requires regularly walking through the domiciliary facility, with additional walking requirements throughout the remainder of the medical center to facilitate patient programming, meetings, training, and other administrative tasks as may required. Walking the exterior of the domiciliary facility is necessary for security rounds. Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing of moderately heavy items such as boxes and/or carts weighing up to 30lbs. The work is normally inside the residential domiciliary unit with the exception of a once per shift exterior security walk. Activities involve everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions of an office setting; and there are regular and recurring situations where physical and verbal attacks by patients is a possibility.
