Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Within 16 weeks from the date of employment, employee will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment.
Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays).
Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time.
Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform.
Incumbent must be a qualified typist (40 wpm).
Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems.
The Incumbent must pass a pre-employment and periodic health analysis by a licensed physician in the following categories:
Hearing - Distinguish, differentiate, and respond to multiple audible stimuli from personnel or equipment, such as telephone, radio, or alarms.
Sight - Distinguish, differentiate, and respond to multiple visual stimuli such as printed documents, CRT displays, and indicator lights.
Manual dexterity - Operate radios, computers, and other equipment used in a telecommunications center.
The incumbent is subject to initial and random urinalysis testing in accordance with agency guidelines.
The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned.
Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned.
Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location.
Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses.
Continuous current certification is a condition of employment.
The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing work that includes: 1) Dispatch emergency personnel (police, fire, medical, hazmat, rescue, etc) as necessary; 2) Obtain pertinent information from callers to ascertain the nature of their emergency or request for assistance; 3) Provide clear and precise instructions to callers in high stress conditions; 4) Utilize dispatching and/or law enforcement communication systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Proficiency Requirement: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors
