As a SECURITY SPECIALIST (PROTECTION), GS-0080-09, you will serve as the Protection Specialist for the Army National Guard and as a point of contact on criminal intelligence matters.

  • Must attend the ARNG Security Manager Course within 12 months of hire
  • Must obtain the Security Professional Certification(s) within 24 months of hire
  • Individual must possess a minimum of a secret clearance. Depending on State's mission set, the position may be required to obtain and maintain a top secret clearance within one year of appointment.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments
  • For Dual-Status Technician positions service affiliation under Title 32 USC 709 is required.
  • To determine the required education and/or certifications for each position’s compatible and allowed military skill, refer to the Service specific military classification regulations.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Able to apply procedures and directives by reading and interpreting technical material. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing, using presentation and report formats. Demonstrated ability to follow directions, to read, understand, and retain a variety of instructions, regulations, and procedures. Learned ability to assess the surrounding environment to recognize immediate risk levels. Must have the education and validated understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade for one of the seven organizational program disciplines and its applicable Security Series career.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7. Knowledge of a wide range of security specialties to include physical, personal, and operational security to identify and resolve conflicting and complex policy and program objectives, and procedures within the security functional area- Knowledge in the specialized field of protection functional areas including antiterrorism, and physical and operations security- Working knowledge of information operation security to review classified material- Working knowledge of protection construction standards to assess and sign off on installation construction projects- Ability to articulate effectively and provide advice and recommendations to supervisors and other security experts or groups at higher and lower echelons- Ability to utilize a computer to write reports, access the internet to research intelligence reports and current, world events, and to maintain the MARMS.

Education

If using education to qualify for this position, master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.

Superior Qualifications and Special Needs Pay-setting Authority may be considered for this position. TAG is final approval authority for incentive programs (applicable to newly appointed federal employees or those with a 90 day break in service).

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by TAG.
