Duties

Help
  • You will be responsible for the cleanliness of the boat engine room.
  • You will perform work involving the dismantling, repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installation of marine machinery equipment and systems.
  • You will install and repair foundations for marine machinery, bolt down parts and accessories to foundations, air hose couplings, fuel lines, and lubricating systems.
  • You will assist higher-grade marine mechanics on assignments involving major systems or machinery of greater complexity.
  • You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on Cummins Diesel and Detroit Diesel internal combustion engines, gasoline outboard engines, engine cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • You will perform duties aboard a variety of boats to include Utility, Personnel, and Landing Craft Mechanized boats.

  • Subject to water traffic hazards and danger of injury such as, drowning by falling overboard in collision, bruises or broken bones from moving equipment or falls from slippery and moving decks.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

  • You may carry/lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. You will be required to climb ladders, push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, and work in cramped positions.
  • The Marine Machinery Repairer works on deck, exposed to sun, wind, spray, rain, and ice during year round operations and may be exposed to the possibility of an electric shock when working on wet surfaces.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Subject to riding in small boats in rough weather. Life jackets are worn at all times while marine vessels are underway.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the common Marine Machinery Repairer tasks including performing repairs by locating and repairing or replacing defective parts and components on marine machinery, equipment, and systems. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level Marine Machinery Repairer who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
