Duties

Help
  • Plan and layout work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints, and knowledge of construction
  • Measure and cut materials to exact specifications using straight, angle and curved cuts to ensure accurate fit, alignment, structural soundness and finished appearance.
  • Use and set up hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Install rafters, studs, sills plaster braces joists, floors, sub-floors, panels (including sheetrock, plywood, and veneers), sidings, sheathing, roofing, building paper, insulating materials, door and window frames, and interior and exterior trim.
  • Paint a variety of surfaces such as the interior and exterior of buildings.
  • Prepare surfaces, mix paints, and apply prime, intermediate and finish coats with brush, roller and spray gun.
  • Operate motor vehicles with a load capacity of less than 4 tons necessary to move material, equipment and personnel to/from job sites.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle state driver license.
  • Obtain and maintain an Asbestos removing and disposing certificate within 120 days of appointment to position.
  • This position is required to lift objects weighing in excess of 45LBS without assistance, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • TDY Travel of 5% may be required.
  • This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Carpenter ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to (1) interpret complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and/or building codes; (2) perform simple framing, install windows, personnel doors and/or make minimal roof repairs; and (3) safely use a variety of shop tools, including hammers, handsaws, belt sanders, and power saws.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Some work is performed at benches or while material is on supports. This requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Employee also works on ladders and scaffolds, which requires work to be performed overhead or in a stretched, cramped, or awkward position. Arm movement is considerable when nailing or using such tools as handsaws and planers. May be required to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds or more.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in all kinds of weather. Employee is subject to cuts from hand and power tools and danger from flying splinters, chips, and sawdust in the air. Employee may also at times work in high places (scaffolding, high ladders, and on rooftops). May be subject to dirt, paint spray and fumes. As necessary wears proper clothing against cold and protective equipment against hazards.
