Summary

Reclamation is seeking a journey level Maintenance Mechanic Worker I, looking to make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.

Duties

Help

Assists in performing preventive maintenance and major overhaul on a scheduled basis of mechanical structures and equipment. This includes disassembly, inspection and determination of condition of parts, grease, oil, repair or replace worn parts, reassembly, test, and adjustments.

Assists in exercising, cleaning, repairing and keeping idle valves, gates and equipment in good operating condition.

Assists in erecting and installing warning signs, guardrails, brackets, guards and fencing to protect Government properties.

Assists in performing electrical welding and cutting as required in the maintenance and overhaul of mechanical structures and equipment.

Assists in assembling and setting forms and reinforcement steel, when required; mixes, pours, spreads and finishes concrete for structural slabs, barricades and other flood control structures.

Assists in performing repairs, modifications and additions to buildings such as installing new doors, building staircases, and relocating walls where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential and structural soundness and appearance are important.

Assists in installing, modifying and repairing new and existing water lines and utility systems such as compressed air and vacuum systems. Completes routing and placement of new systems, seats, hooks up and tests equipment.

Assists in rehabilitating heavy duty equipment, gates, pumps, and other equipment and metal works by sandblasting and painting with special protective coatings; and using standard painting methods such as brushing, rolling, and spraying. Maintains building interiors by sanding, scraping, spackling and puttying and painting surfaces.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required as a condition of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain a CDL will result in the termination of appointment.
You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.
You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

Additional information

Selected applicants will start off at the Worker I level. The promotion potential is to Worker III. Promotion is not automatic nor guaranteed.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement.
