Duties

Help

Establishes work schedules, selects type and amount of materials to be used and ensures proper charging of material against job order.  Determines manpower requirements, materials and methods to be used in successfully completing the job. Provides on-the-job training to ensure employees are proficient in current job duties and responsibilities and are aware of MCCS policies and procedures.  Performs on-site inspections of work during construction.

Works with and supervises subordinate staff and directs relate work associate with building maintenance, utilities, carpentry, refrigeration equipment, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, welding, masonry and painting trades.  Determines training needs for all subordinate work force and encourages continued education.   Plans organize work schedules and manage internal resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies.  Assists with budget, inventories, costs controls and related records and reports. Reviews financial status of the assigned activity and recommends changes considered necessary.

Schedules work shifts, appraises performance, counsels assigned personnel and recommends personnel actions.  Manages new property resources and provides advice on renovations and improvements.  Maintains and enforces security for merchandise, supplies and equipment to precluded or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse.  

Determines materials and equipment needed and prepare estimates of time, labor and costs.  Establishes priorities, determines manpower, tooling, material requirements, methods to be used, production techniques, sequence and coordination of various trade work involved.  May coordinate work with private contractors as necessary.

Will ensure compliance with all fire, safety, environmental and EEO regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to plan complete Journeyman level work which demonstrates knowledge of the skills associated with a variety of trades involving painting, masonry, plumbing and welding.  Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills.  Must have knowledge of the Uniform Building Code.  Possession of valid California driver¿s license. 
 

RESPONSIBILITY

Works under general supervision. The majority of the work is performed independently where the incumbent makes decisions based on personal knowledge. 


PHYSICAL EFFORT

Requires prolonged standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  Lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 10lbs.  Occasionally may handle materials weighing 40 lbs. and over.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed both inside and outside and incumbent is exposed to dirt, pain vapors and fumes, scrapes, burns and cuts.
