Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a Security Guard assigned under the authority of the Senior Commander at IMCOM supported installations.
  • You will independently perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances
  • You will authenticate identification through use of electronic Personnel Access Control Systems (ePACS), identification cards, badges, biometric automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • You will conduct Random Inspection Team (RIT) or Random Antiterrorism Measures (RAM) vehicle searches/inspections , in accordance with standing operating procedures, or as directed by the Installation Commander.
  • You will be responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
  • You will provide authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures, exercising sound judgment and discretion in response to telephone and in-person security inquiries.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and then continue to maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Incumbent must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for emergencies.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the standards after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in two or more of the following areas: experience controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians into restricted areas; experience using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry into restricted areas; experience transcribing data using special codes in accordance with federal and state regulations (e.g. style codes, manufacturer's codes, wanted or missing person); and experience dealing with difficult customers who may be found ineligible for access. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
