The Project Manager is responsible for performing multiple, varying, and complex activities necessary to meet the deliverables associated with a Special Program or Project in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Integration Office (AUS). Assignments frequently require knowledge and experience working across functional and/or organizational lines.

Applies experience and comprehensive knowledge of project management strategies, principles, and concepts to help organize teams and complete projects according to their success criteria while engaging stakeholders. Ensures open and effective communication, cooperation, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Plans, coordinates, monitors, and reports on the progress of multiple ongoing projects. Identifies, plans, and organizes available resources to accomplish projects/programs/activities. Makes optimal use of resources to complete activities within established schedules and assigned milestones. Works with program manager in formulating, defending, and executing project budgets and schedules. As a Project Manager for activities, participates in phase,
milestone, final project reviews, and other project meetings.

Leads small project teams in achieving organizational objectives and goals, ensures project team follows the organization’s mission. Identifies project deliverables and ensures that they adhere to qualify standards. Works with manager or program manager to coordinate and integrate project activities. Identifies and evaluates project risks/issues and recommends ways to either avoid or minimize impact. Communicates with project members to determine the status of various projects and issues that will need to be resolved. Provides guidance to less-experienced professionals. Develops and recommends approaches to address current and anticipated problems and
issues. Works with management and/or more experienced professionals to solve problems. Develops and recommends improvements to systems and/or processes to improve operational efficiency.

Established policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments, but allow considerable discretion for employee to select the most appropriate approach(es) or develop new approaches. Assignments regularly require interpretations of internal and external policies and extrapolations from precedents.

Work involves interaction with FAA employees and contract support staff and may require interaction with a variety of stakeholders including federal, state, and local government organizations, private organizations, and the general public. Provides guidance and support to ensure team members can effectively complete their tasks and achieve project goals.

Contacts are internal and external. May act as a point of contact to provide advice and guidance on the applications of policies and procedures. May be called upon to communicate FAA positions on policies and procedures internally and externally.

The work is reviewed rarely, typically though status reports and at project completion, to ensure policy compliance and alignment with the requirements of projects and/or other work activities. The work activities typically impact directly on the objectives of one or more organizational units, major subdivisions, and/or LOB's/SO's and may affect the objectives of the FAA. In some specialties, the work often affects internal and external customers.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes: Experience in interpreting, using and writing UAS and UTM regulations for the development and implementation of rules to enable more complex drone operations.
