Summary

This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department of Commander Navy Region Southwest (CNRSW). The primary purpose of this position is to ensure, through working and supervising construction and maintenance personnel in the safe and efficient construction and repair of recreational and athletic facilities.

Duties

Help

  • Assists in the design and supervises the construction of various projects. Performs work related to the operation, minor construction, repair and maintenance of facilities and property. As a working supervisor, assists and directs the activities of subordinate construction crew engaged in performing a variety of craft s and trades related to general construction and repair of various recreational and athletic facilities. Duties consist of, but are not limited to, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical repair.
  • Establishes work schedules. Determines work priorities, checks work in progress and when finished, for compliance with sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines. Answers worker's questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and directives. Keeps supervisor informed on status and progress of work, causes of delays, overall work operations, and problems that require corrective action.
  • Responsible for submitting appropriate paperwork and/or purchase orders for supplies, parts, materials, and equipment for authorized projects. Ensures accurate receipt of items. Maintains records and reports. Responsible for conducting a monthly inventory of supplies and equipment; determines discrepancies of short and damaged items and advises supervisor. Accounts for all property assigned. As required, makes minor repairs to equipment. Establishes a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment.
  • Conducts training programs for assigned personnel in proper performance of their duties, use of efficient work methods and safe practices. Ensures attendance of all staff to required training classes and physicals.
  • Assures that safety, fire and housekeeping rules and regulations are followed, and that equipment and tools are property cleaned and maintained.
  • Carries out EEO policies and communicates support of these policies to subordinates. Assures quality in determining selections, assignments, training, promotions, details, qualifications, discipline and awards to employees. Cooperates and participates fully in the development of an EEO affirmative action plan and its effects regarding staffing, motivation and training to develop all employees. Ensures that minorities and women are considered for training opportunities and are also nominated/appointed to boards and committees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, climb, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be able to life and carry supplies and materials that weight up to 40 pounds.
  • Use of hand trucks and dollies may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years in maintenance or construction work.
  • Have a practical working knowledge of subordinate duties as well as administrative requirements.
  • Sound knowledge in the fields of plumbing, carpentry, painting and electrical maintenance.
  • Skill in the use of a wide variety of equipment and tools.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports.
  • Knowledge of inventory procedures and controls.
  • Ability to perform construction repairs and maintenance.
  • Ability to instruct.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
