Help

Majority of this person¿s time will be spent managing daily operations and programs at Paige Field House. Responsible for operations and programming of the 67,000 square foot fitness center with an annual patronage of 700,000 people.  Facility is open 24/7 and includes the operation of unmanned hours.  The facility includes a large weight room, classroom, outdoor artificial track, football and score tower, outdoor and indoor strength and conditioning training areas, two basketball courts, four racquetball courts, group exercise room, laundry room, office areas, gear check out and storage areas. Responsible for the maintenance of equipment and facility as well as scheduling of the facility assets.  Annually responsible for hosting more than 200 high profile events such as Wounded Warrior Trials, Marine Corps Silent Drill team, dignitary visits, retirements, and change of commands.  Supports others by providing a venue for athletic competitions, youth sports activities, and civilian organizations on a daily basis.

Supervises active duty service members (E-1- E-4) and MCCS employees (NF-1s- NF-3s).  Liaison with area commander to obtain and supervise active duty staff.  Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring, and mentoring employees; approves and disapproves leave, recommends and completes personnel actions, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, submits and approves time. Ensures employees are aware of Marine Corps Community Services and fitness policies and procedures.  Supports the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate actions.  

Plans, organizes work, and manages internal procedures and resources to ensure maximum productivity and economies.  Monitors programs on a regular basis and initiates corrective action to ensure support of operating program within the facility and outside grounds.  Oversee and ensures cleaning and up-keep of the facility, surrounding grounds and equipment on a daily basis.  Ensure the upkeep and timely repair of fitness equipment totaling more than 1 million dollars in value.  Establishes work schedules to ensure adequate personnel are available to support scheduled events and daily workload.  

Some time will be required to teach and program fitness and health activities.  Serves as an expert in fitness programing, functional training, and injury prevention.  Provides instruction and consultation to promote fitness development for individuals and groups.  Supports all Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR) programming and services and Marine Corps Total Fitness (MCTF) strategy.

Required to act as the Fire Marshal for the facility, prepares reports as required, evaluates programs, and makes recommendations accordingly.  Supports facility improvement projects and renovations.  Recommends and involved daily with the implementation and oversight of construction projects.  Acts to resolve customers and staff complaints and reports concerns to their MCCS chain of command.  

Constantly provides World Class Customer service with an emphasis on courtesy.  Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye conduct. Asks questions to determine, verify, and solve problems.  Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety program. Ensures employees understand safety infractions that may result in disciplinary actions and understand unsafe or unhealthy work conditions. Takes action to solve problems quickly.  Alerts the higher level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage facility budget to include purchasing, inventory and recommends equipment purchases. Will oversee payment processing for group exercise and locker rentals and be required to submit daily deposits and financial reports.  Must obtain and maintain a Government Purchasing Credit Card while in the position.

CONTINUATION:  

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Must support other command, MCCS and Semper Fit programs with facility requests and staff support.  Will support Semper Fit programs such as the Hard Corps Race Series, Active Duty and Unit Recreation, Athletics, etc. with their programming at various locations outside the fitness facility.  Maintain confidentially when collecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and complies with HIPPA regulations.  Ensures employee completion of safety and annual trainings. Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with ¿Return to Work¿ program initiatives and following up on employee well-being. Must possess a valid state driver¿s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Must be able to work early mornings, nights, holidays, and weekends.  This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance. Requires extended periods of standing and walking on tile floors. Adheres to safety regulations and standards.  Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures.  Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards by actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:  A bachelor¿s degree from an accredited college/university in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences in exercise physiology, kinesiology, exercise science or a related field is required. Must have four years of fitness and facility management experience to include maintenance, planning, organizing, and administrating fitness activities.  One year must be a supervisory level.  Must be certified as a personal fitness trainer by a nationally accredited certifying organization recognized by Marine Corps Headquarters or obtain within six months. Must currently have or obtain within six months a group exercise certification.  Commonly recognized organizations are: American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, National Strength and Conditioning Association, Cooper Institute of Aerobic Research, and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Certification must be kept current throughout employment. Must be certified in CPR within 3 months and remain certified during duration of employment.

Individuals who are 18 years old, or older must be able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI) background checks OR may provide water safety instruction to children under 18 years of age as long as a parent or guardian is present during the period of instruction, or Line of Sight Supervision is provided by another employee with an adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries and State Criminal History Repository Check (CNACI).
