Duties

Help
  • Records a variety of physician's orders involving patient activities, diets, and medications, on a timely basis to various charts (Patient Profile, medication and treatment records)
  • Identifies various chemical compounds, symbols and abbreviations comprising medication orders and accurately transcribes drug names, dosages, and times of administration.
  • Initiates and receives telephone calls to obtain and provide information.
  • Records telephone messages pertaining to such things as detailed laboratory reports, X-ray and test results.
  • Recognize and refers urgent results to the professional staff for immediate action.
  • Properly files the results of various tests in patients' charts as they are received, keeping the record of care current and accurate.
  • Acts as the information receptionist for the clinic.
  • Receives visitors and phone calls to the unit.
  • Utilizes automated systems as required by the clinical area assigned (e.g., workload management system, DMHRSi, Clinical Event Review Module, OR Scheduling system, CHCS-I, AHLTA, Trace-View).
  • Scans and files outpatient charts as needed.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. General Experience: One year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as performing any of the following, assisting customers, utilizing a computer, scheduling appointments and maintaining files electronically or hard copy.

OR

Education: Two years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
