  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities and plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
  • Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the organization, ensuring that professional, scientific and technical work complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Establishes policies and procedures for accomplishment of work and to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment, promote team building, and implement quality improvements.
  • Applies a number of diverse professional and scientific practices, techniques, and processes in the field of computer science to perform work involving theory, design, development, test and application of computer software, software systems and computer hardware architectures concerned with embedded systems, automatic test, database systems, computer system architectures and networks, modeling and simulation systems, and cybersecurity systems for purposes such as communication, computation, sensing, control, measurement, navigation and protection.
  • Evaluates reports by analyzing facts, performing appropriate research, and prepares detailed responses. Prepares oral/written reports and determines efficient utilization of resources.
  • Determines appropriate recommendations for unresolved or questionable problems and performs follow-up. Researches and determines or recommends appropriate actions or interpretation of issues that impact organization, installation, command, or agency.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions located here

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02 or equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experiences is plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the organization, ensuring that professional, scientific and technical work complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Establishes policies and procedures for accomplishment of work and to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment, promote team building, and implement quality improvements.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
1.
Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, and materials of professional computer science, and knowledge of other technical disciplines to effectively apply computer software, software systems and computer hardware architectural theories, principles, and concepts to areas of responsibility.
2. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.
4. Ability to research, evaluate, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions.
5. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the support of open-air flight and weapon testing to include data analysis and processing of range data resources for Radars, Telemetry, Digital Video, and TSPI information for both real-time mission and post-mission data reduction aspects.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience is a plus.
  • 2-5 years of experience with leading team or projects
  • Experience with aspects of facility management
  • Experience with aspects of security policy and practices


Education

Education requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer
science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and
integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Direct Hire Authority: NO 6-MONTH WAIT! Recently retired and/or retiring from MILITARY service ARE eligible for immediate appointment for AFTC positions. The 180-day waiting period has been waived for AFTC to hire recently retired and/or retiring service members.

About the Role:
The Air Force Test Center is looking for a Full-Time Supervisory Computer Scientist (NH-1550-03) to work at the 96 TW, 96 Range Group, 96 Range Control Squadron, Operations Flight (RNCO) at 96 RNCS, in Eglin AFB FL

96TH TEST WING MISSION: We test and evaluate state-of-the-art weapon systems, provide quality installation and mission support, and serve as responsible stewards of our resources to deliver war-winning capabilities.

This is an acquisition demonstration project position NH-03 equivalent to a GS-12 to GS-13.
