Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Dayton Federal Records Center. As an Archives Technician, you will work under the supervision of a supervisor or higher-graded technician experienced in the tasks associated with the incumbent's position. Incumbent performs various duties related to the delivery, transfer, reference, and accessioning or disposition of records, and provides assistance to agency customers.

Help

As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:

  • Provide reference services by searching for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identified; refile or interfile records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc.
  • Perform various duties related to the acceptance of incoming transfers of Federal records.
  • Use the Archives and Records Centers Information System (ARCIS) to search for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identifiable.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • The work is performed on loading docks or in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing 15' pulpit ladders, and lifting boxes of records weighing 30-50 lbs. is required. The work requires common physical abilities.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position must include:

Operating office automation programs for maintaining database information. AND
Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines. AND
Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.

OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.

OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
