Duties

Help
  • Determines pay, payroll records maintenance and completion of reports pertaining to civilian employees of the Federal Government. Processes travel authorizations and vouchers.
  • Provides accounting support work requiring a basic understanding of accounting systems, policies, and procedures to examine, verify, maintain and reconcile accounts and accounting data, prepare and analyze reports.
  • Examines financial documentation for accuracy, adequacy, and with compliance with regulations for goods and services provided to or by the Government, reimbursements for medical and domiciliary care, education, travel and transportation.
  • Answer requests, offer advice to supervisors, staff, and specialists on regulations and procedures. May include collections unrelated to pay or leave, maintain retirement records, process benefit forms, examine, balance, compute, and extract data.
  • Establish, correct, and close accounts. In and out-processing, inquiry response, review debts, process adjustments; make collections, maintain retirement records, process benefit forms; post, examine, balance, compute, and extract data for reports.
  • Knowledge of schedules, procurements instructions and procedures, travel regulations, commercial practices, trade customers and terminology general terms and provisions of Government contracts, foreign currency, weight conversions tables, etc.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • The incumbent must complete training and meet position requirements for certification at Level 1 within 2 years of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes utilizing accounting systems to maintain accounting data or create financial reports; providing advice and/or guidance on pay related rules, regulations, and procedures; and maintaining payroll records for personnel within an organization or agency.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
