Duties

Help
  • Prepares and cooks a variety of menu items in a timely manner. Working alone or with the assistance of a higher-grade cook or supervisor, prepares a variety of foods and desserts according to menu requirements.
  • Follows recipes to prepare a variety of food items adjusting recipes for larger or smaller quantities.
  • Follows health and safety precautions to ensure safe preparation and storage of food items. Monitors and maintains appropriate temperature of all food items throughout preparation and service.
  • Brings prepared foods from preparation area to refrigerators or serving area. Takes inventory to determine ordering requirements. Check food for appropriate preparation, temperature, and packaging.
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment. Keeps cooking utensils cleaned and ready for use. Keeps working area clean in accordance with standard sanitation requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required for this position.
  • Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.
  • Work involves standing, walking, stooping, reaching and bending for prolonged periods of time. May be required to occasionally life objects weighing up to 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.
  • Must be able to work varying shifts during the hours of operation to include nights, weekends and holidays, as well as special events as various on-post locations.
  • Must meet state/local age requirements (18) for the operating of equipment declared hazardous and often used by cooks at the time of appointment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of 6 months of work experience directly related to the duties described above, that included skill in working with professional kitchen appliances and equipment. Be able to communicate (verbal and written) in English.

PCS Costs
  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position.
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.
  • Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.
