Summary

Apply principles of engineering to assist or participate in scientific experiments.
Perform tests using standard references, guides, and precedents to select the best methods and procedures.
Plans, install and calibrate instrumentation for collecting research data.
Set up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment, records instrumental readings, and evaluates test data.
Assemble, tabulate and conduct analyses of collected data, with responsibility for recognizing and correcting errors, inconsistencies, and other deficiencies in the data.
Select or modify test equipment or procedures to meet unusual field conditions or special requirements.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with technical work associated with electrical or mechanical systems; collecting data from standard instruments; and recording and compiling data from equipment tests. OR Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR
A combination of specialized experience and education as described above.
GS-06:
