Duties

Help
  • Assists automotive mechanics in performance of maintenance and repair on all combustion powered vehicles.
  • Helps with repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components such as fouled spark plugs, worn brake shoes, water pumps, engine gaskets belts and hoses, etc.
  • Under the direct supervision of the automotive mechanic or higher-grade worker, removes and replaces with standard parts.
  • Assists in making settings and adjustments such as setting distributor and voltage regulation points, gaping spark plugs, setting engine idle and time, and taking up on breaks.
  • Observes environmental safety, and security rules and regulations. Responsible for the overall cleanliness and order of the facility.
  • Determine the need and prepare orders for repair and maintenance of shop, tools, and equipment, as required.
  • Determine the need for and report requirement to the manager to order materiel, supplies and all items necessary to maintain and run the programs and activities assigned by the Auto Skills Center manager.
  • Collect fees from patrons and oversee customers work to ensure compliance with safety regulations and avoid misuse of equipment. Ensure that patrons clean up their work areas and return tools and materials. Performs other duties and assigned.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • Possesses satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Successfully complete a health screening. Immunizations required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, crawl under vehicles, and work in tight spaces or tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 40 pounds (lbs.). Must be able to occasionally lift items 50 lbs. or more with mechanical devices or assistance from other workers.
  • Must currently possess or have an ability to obtain a valid driver's license before the date of employment.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent from a trade school.
  • Must possess six (6) months of progressively general work experience.
  • Must possess a minimum of six (6) months of specialized experience in automotive work.
  • Must have the ability to use standard and metric automotive hand and power tools.
  • Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.

FWS Allowances and Differentials
  • All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee.

  • Payment Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

  • Incentives will not be paid.
Foreign Overseas Allowances
  • Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) will not be paid for this position.
  • Post Allowance may be paid in accordance with the Department of States Standardized Regulations (DSSR).
