Duties

Help
  • Conduct assessments and monitors individuals and groups with the goal of improving foundational health, recovery, and rehabilitation to return to duty.
  • Develop, compound, and present comprehensive physical fitness and nutritional research to incorporate best practices in nutrition programs and resource management based on Commander's expectations.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Command and unit leaders to pinpoint the health needs of the organization in order to service programs focusing on the Commander's priorities.
  • Participate on an interdisciplinary team to coordinate the rehabilitation or wellness activities for individual Soldiers or groups of Soldiers with the brigade.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Position is subject to random drug testing. Incumbent must pass a drug test.
  • Position may require temporary duty (TDY) business travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Incumbent may be required to work overtime and other than normal duty hours.
  • Incumbent will be required to be in an On-Call status after hours and on weekends.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Requires physical exertion that includes lifting of moderately heavy items and requires exertion to perform exercises used in physical performance and rehabilitation
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Incumbent may be required to work later in the day and/or on weekends, as scheduled by the supervisor.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Dietitian (Holistic Health and Fitness):

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists.

OR

Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes delivering individual, group, and unit nutrition services and education to optimize health performance, overall unit readiness, and ultimately, mission success; and providing nutrition education using evaluation tools to measure impacts in support of the holistic health and fitness system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
