Help
  • You will analyze blueprints to decide the best method to complete welding work.
  • You will determine welding techniques used for different types of metals and metal alloys.
  • You will maintain a clean welding work environment by keeping the area free of hazards (e.g., hoses, welding leads, hand tools, supporting equipment).
  • You will determine heating or welding characteristics of metals to perform welding tasks.

  • Employee must be CPR certified.
  • The employee may be required to be certified in the use of a respirator.
  • This position requires ability to obtain licenses for the operation of Fork Lift, High Lift (JLG), and /or construction equipment, upon notification.
  • The employee is required to maintain current certification to perform various types of welding work. Welding proficiency is verified by destructive and non-destructive testing of welds.
  • This position my be job sited. The employee may be required to report for work at a location other than a permanently assigned location.
  • Incumbent may require immunizations as recommended by health and industrial hygiene officials.
  • Employee may also be required to operate license mobile cranes and motor vehicles requiring licensing for up 2 ton vehicles.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Welder without more than normal supervision performing the following types of duties: 1) Perform a variety of complete welding assignments using manual, electric arc/inert gas shielded, gas torch or similar welding process to repair modify, or fabricate all types of metal and alloy parts, equipment or components; 2) Use blueprints, sketches, work orders, specifications, or other guides to plan, layout, and complete welding assignments; 3) Welding metal parts and structures that vary in size, shape and thickness; 4) Making welds to achieve complete penetration and/or fusion of dissimilar metals.

This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Several vacancies may be filled.

A 40 hour work week is typical for this position.

The incumbent may be required to work shift work, overtime on emergency basis, and re-called to duty on an emergency basis.

The employee is required to work other normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
