Duties

Help
  • You will advise the Chief of Naval Operations and Naval History and Heritage Command on both short-term and long-term requirements relative to detailed restoration and maintenance plans for the USS Constitution.
  • You will provide expert technical leadership and recommend actions to mitigate complex problems faced by 18th century shipbuilders and craftsmen in the maintenance and upkeep of a 225 year-old warship.
  • You will conduct research pertaining to late 1700’s and early 1800 shipbuilding techniques and practices.
  • You will determine program goals and develop work plans for projects, ensuring safety and mission accomplishment for USS Constitution.
  • You will represent the Naval History and Heritage Command and the ship’s maintenance requirements in all inter-agency coordination between the following:
  • Active-duty crew of the USS Constitution, the U.S. Park Service, U.S. Coast Guard, and all other stakeholders at the Charleston Navy Yard.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector utilizing a knowledge of shipbuilding, managerial and administrative principles and practices that enables employees to serve as a recognized expert and to recommend policy and program objectives. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Mastery of shipbuilding, restoration, and maintenance that enables employee to serve as a recognized expert for the Department of the Navy. 2) Conduct research pertaining to late 1700's and early 1800's shipbuilding techniques and practices. 3) Determination of program goals and development of work plans for projects that ensure safety and mission accomplishment. 4) Knowledge and skill required to represent the Navy in project matters in agency or task group meetings with stakeholders. 5) Managerial skills and knowledge to direct the work of seven distinct trade specialties as well as a variety of general schedule employees.
