Summary

This position is located at a National Interagency Support Cache (NISC) or a Forest Service unit. The incumbent performs a wide range of warehousing and materials handling activities that include receiving, storing, repairing, refurbishing, and shipping a variety of supplies, equipment and materials. Additionally, the incumbent may package and repackage and configure into kits a variety of stocked and manufactured items. Duties also include packing and repacking a variety of stock items.

Duties

Help
  • Loads and unloads supplies and equipment using manual and/or automated stock moving equipment such as forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks in warehouses and outdoor environments.
  • Utilizes an automated inventory database with handheld information technology device compatibility to locate and identify inventory.
  • Checks, assembles, and processes documents, and routes materials and equipment to the correct locations or storage areas.
  • Verifies or prepares documents either manually or by using automated equipment to read, store, track, and prepare materials documentation.
  • Validates and ensures correctness for shipping, receiving and incident returns on quantities, identification criteria, and labeling. Identifies and reports discrepancies.
  • Ensures that inventory records are accurate and current. Prepares reports on inventory status.
  • Uses automated equipment to load computerized inventory data, access inventory information, fill item requisitions and process returns.
  • Completes appropriate documentation, segregates supplies and identifies accounts by verifying electronically customer and incident/project support information.
  • Performs the off-loading of returns. Inspects inventory and identifies supplies and equipment to be repaired, refurbished, disposed, restocked or routed to external parties.
  • Performs repair and/or refurbishment on National Fire Equipment System (NFES) inventory meeting NFES Fire Equipment Storage and Refurbishment Standards.
  • Performs kit assembly, packaging and refurbishment.
  • Provides assistance in developing plans, laying out storage space, establishing item locations, determining organization and arrangement of stock and identifying high and low usage items according to agency regulations and procedures.
  • Works independently to consolidate materials and provide maximum space utilization and protection of supplies and equipment.
  • Packs and/or repacks for shipment and/or storage, a variety of tools, parts, equipment, supplies, printed materials or other items.
  • Considers special requirements such as size, weight or mode of transportation and blocks or braces sensitive materials and equipment. May wrap, strap, tape, staple, seal, weigh, and label containers.
  • Completes and provides appropriate documentation for transportation ensuring compliance with all applicable rules and regulations for identification/labeling, handling and security.

Selective Placement Factor:
  • Incumbent is required to operate Government vehicles. Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • This is a testing designated position which requires a negative test result for illegal drug use prior to appointment and randomly thereafter.

In accordance with USDA Department Regulation 4430-792-2, this position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the USDA Drug Free Workplace Program and subject to pre-employment drug testing. All applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis on an ongoing random basis, after appointment as directed.
