Duties

Help
  • Laborers perform manual tasks involving grounds maintenance to include lawn mowing, trimming, fertilizing, and watering.
  • It also includes custodial duties to include cleaning, stripping, waxing and buffing floors, vacuuming, removing stains, washing walls and windows, collecting, and discarding trash and debris.
  • This position requires a motor vehicle over primitive, unpaved roads in a rural setting in all types of weather conditions.
  • In some location Laborers will be handling chemical compounds and operating noxious weed spraying equipment for the benefit of wildlife and livestock.
  • In some locations laborers will be a member of a trail crew. Work will involve the construction and reconstruction of trails; repairing drainage structures with hand tools; constructing or repairing rock and lumber retaining walls using hand tools.
  • Operating chain saws and other power tools to clear brush and trees along the trails; hiking long distances carrying hand tools and power tools performing trail maintenance activities; and performing minor repairs and maintenance of equipment/tools.
  • NOTE: Colton, OR: At this location the positions perform various duties associated with tree orchard maintenance including maintaining trees, watering seedlings, mulching, pruning, and weeding.
  • Cleaning and disposing of debris (tree branches, vegetative material) from grounds.  Operating motorized orchard vehicles.  Maintaining a safe environment around the facility and grounds.  Assisting with building, tools, and equipment maintenance.
  • Vale, OR:  Some of Vale, OR laborer positions are responsible for landscaping, irrigation and maintenance of recreation and historical facilities at the remote Historic Birch Creek Ranch.
  • Duties at this site may also include visitor services to rafting public and outfitters for part of the season, operating gas pumps, field irrigation, driving 4x4 roads and vehicles, and small engine maintenance (mower, weed eater, etc.).
  • The nearest community is about 50 miles and 1 1/2 hours away in Jordan Valley, Malheur County, Oregon. Housing may be available for Historic Birch Creek Ranch positions.

WG-04: has performed simple and routine operations such as mowing lawns, weeding, planting and fertilizing grass; fixing minor repairs such as; unclogging drains, repairing leaks and changing light bulbs; using power tools to cut down brush and make minor repairs.

Physical Effort: Works on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and rooftops, and in cramped and hard-to-reach places. Duties require the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Heavier items may occasionally be lifted with assistance of lifting devices or other workers. May work on steep terrain covered slash and debris.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, often in the presence of dirt, dust, grease, and fumes. Assignments involve exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, cuts, bruises and infects. Workers may be exposed to bad weather. Duties often require the use of protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

Colton, OR: $24.08 - $28.09 per hour
Baker City, Maupin, Prineville, Vale: $21.85 - $25.49 per hour
