Help

Major Duties include:

  • Incumbent performs installation and repair on all HVAC systems, consisting of DX systems, IDU's, ODU's, exhaust systems, chilled water systems, fan coil units, and hot water systems.
  • Incumbent to possess knowledge of controls systems and their function/purpose.
  • Incumbent is responsible for the installation, operation, and repair of a mechanically/digitally operated air conditioning system consisting of multiple chillers. Refrigerant pumps, condensing pumps, chilled water pumps, electrical and pneumatic controls, tempering and reheating coils, various size zone air conditioning and heating coils operating through individual thermostats, and electrically operated air supply fans, electrically operated exhaust fans, and electric and pneumatically controlled temperature control systems through the dual heating and cooling thermostats. Incumbent repairs, modifies and relocates special purpose air conditioning units and systems to provide critical climate conditions to various locations.
  • Incumbent is responsible for the balancing of air and water throughout the system with a minimum amount of assistance.
  • Incumbent has the technical knowledge to diagnose problems and supply workable solutions.
  • Incumbent is qualified in sheet metal work, capable of layout, set-up and manufacturing of sheet metal ducts systems.
  • Knowledge of how various HVAC systems and equipment work are installed and operate. Ability to plan and lay out the installation, modification, and repair of various new and existing HVAC systems and equipment. Ability to interpret and apply building plans and blueprints, and to use shop mathematics to lie out angles, arcs, and circles. Skill in the use of tools and equipment such as sheet metal hand tools, cutting, crimping, breaks, shears, and presses.
  • The incumbent must have knowledge of infection control guidelines, procedures and abatement technology solutions for minimizing the spread of particulates generated during construction activities within a Health Care Facility.

Qualifications

Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires physical effort, continual standing, bending, stooping, lifting, sitting, and reaching. The work also involves frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying items up to 20 pounds. There is occasional lifting up to 40-50 pounds. The work is performed indoors and outdoors.
