Summary

These positions are located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Senate Office Buildings, Wood Crafting Branch. The Senate Office Buildings, seeks temporary Wood crafters for the upcoming 119th Congressional Moves Transition. The position will begin January 2025 and terminate at the conclusion of the project. Seeking applicants with journey-level wood crafting and/or carpentry skills. 

Since office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory.

Duties

Help

The positions are Temporary for the 119th Senate Congressional Moves. The job term may end when project is complete, or funding expires.

Shifts will be determined based on Operational Needs of Management. Hours may change depending on Operational Needs of Management

Office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory

Applicant must have  journey-level wood crafting or carpentry skills. 

Journeyman level experience is required for the position.

Wood Crafters will perform a wide range of carpentry projects in support of the Senate Office Buildings during the 119th Congressional moves.

***Journey Level Experience in the Wood Crafter or Carpentry Occupational Trade is required.

Major Duties:

The work may involve construction, alteration, repair or modification of items and structures (such as wood and metal stud wall framework, walls, moldings, wood flooring, suspended ceilings, dry wall, doors, door frames, finished paneling, windows, counter tops, interior and exterior trim) where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential to structural soundness and appearance. Selects, cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits, assembles and decorates wooden materials and parts, using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable wood work which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure and size tolerances to construct specialty furniture.

The individual(s) uses a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods and their alternatives to plan and lay out their work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes for projects.

The individual(s) must follow all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. The position also provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure the utilization of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Please Note: This position is temporary and subject to the project needs of the Agency. If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.

You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT required for this position:

-- Ability to perform journey-level wood crafting or carpentry without more than normal supervision
