Summary

Located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Senate Office Buildings, Painting Branch. The Senate Office Buildings, seeks temporary Painters for the upcoming 119th Congressional Moves Transition. The position will begin January 2025 and terminate at the conclusion of the project.

Since office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory. Painters use standard methods and special finishing techniques to perform coating work on furnishings and buildings.

Duties

Help

These positions are Temporary for the 119th Senate Congressional Moves. The job term may end when project is complete, or funding expires.

Shifts will be determined based on Operational Needs of Management. Hours may change depending on Operational Needs of Management

Painters will perform a wide range of painting work projects (Performs coating work including special finishing techniques such as marbling, mottling and graining).  in support of the Senate Office Buildings during the 119th Congressional moves.

Journeyman level experience is required for the position.

Responsibilities:

-Performs a variety of work assignments involving brush, roller and spray painting. Determines color and consistency of paint required.

-Selects paints from plans and specifications. Mixes pigments, thinners, and oils to produce paint that will flow evenly and consistently to ensure surfaces that have a smooth-textured and decorative appearance.

-Checks masking and preparation of surface to be painted.  Applies paint, selecting the proper materials and equipment to achieve an even distribution. Applies finishes to wood, metal, equipment, in interior and exterior locations using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

- Evaluates existing painted surfaces for damage. Alters, repairs, and maintains new and historical painted surfaces. Matches colors, shading and texture of interior finishes as required.

- Trims, sands, and smooths surfaces using hand tools, caulk, sand paper, and spackle knives.

- Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Must utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner. Ensures the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.  

You must meet the SCREEN OUT required for this position which includes:

-Ability to perform the work of a journey-level painter with an appropriate Level of Supervision
