Summary

These positions are located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Senate Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Tenant Services Division; Upholstery Branch. 

The AOC seeks temporary Floor Covering Installers for the upcoming 119th Congressional Moves. Floor Covering Installers will begin January 2025 and terminate at the conclusion of the project.

Since office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory.

Duties

These Positions are Temporary for the 119th Senate Congressional Moves. The job term may end when project is complete, or funding expires.

Shifts will be determined based on Operational Needs of Management

Floor Covering Installers will perform a wide range of carpentry projects in support of the Senate Office Buildings during the 119th Congressional moves.

Floor Covering Installation Work

Measures room areas for the installation of carpets and other floor coverings. Cuts carpet pads and carpets to fit designated floor areas with simple shapes and surfaces.

Installs carpets and rugs. Uses a "rug kicker" or "power stretcher" to straighten and/or stretch the carpet to insure proper fit.

Performs carpet work in the installation and repair of a variety of broadloom carpets, pads, and carpet tiles, measures rooms, halls, etc.; ensures proper color and dye lot numbers; measures and cuts to fit spaces and make patters and designs; lays out and lines up; ties in among and between rooms/halls; ensures proper alignment of directional materials; fastens with glue or tacking strips; stretches carpets with kicker; seams with seaming iron; binds with binding machines.

When not actively engaged in rug laying, removes, cleans and reinstalls draperies, window blinds and other window treatments from offices as required:

Reinstalls draperies, window blinds and other window treatments upon completion of cleaning other duties as required.

Performs other duties as required.

Please Note: This position is temporary and subject to the project needs of the Agency. If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.

- Knowledge of standard flooring installation techniques to install and repair carpets, pads, tiles, linoleum, and vinyl sheet goods for areas with simple shapes and surfaces.

- Knowledge of techniques used to remove old or worn flooring, padding, and other materials, and repair flooring by refurbishing or re-gluing loose materials, or refinishing exposed wood.

- Ability to repair or replace carpets, pads, tiles, linoleum, and vinyl sheet goods, using glue or tacking strips, and materials that are easy to work with.

- Skill in measuring, cutting, seaming, and binding broadloom carpet.

- Knowledge of the various cleaning solutions and the proper mixtures and types of solutions.

- Skill in removing, cleaning, repairing, reassembling, and installing blinds and draperies.
